Geno Smith's long green room wait ended today (pick 39) .
Smith's toughness and talent will be tested now after being drafted by the Jets. During the draft, he showed confidence - even during his wait
"We're going to the playoffs next year," Smith said immediately after being drafted.
The Jets still have major concerns at guard, receivers, and tight end. Now with 6 quarterbacks on the roster (Mark Sanchez , David Garrard , and Tim Tebow) will there be more competition? Or simply a change?
Now coach Rex Ryan is in a put up or shut up year and has to balance trying to win with developing new talent.
Smith may be better off sitting and learning on the bench: however he's likely to compete for a starting job with the temptation to play him once the Jets start losing.
If Ryan doesn't win, Smith will likely have to learn another offensive system with a new coach in 2014.
"I just want to come in and compete, I'm going to accept my role on the team whatever it is," Smith told reporters. "I'm going to come in and work ... do my best for my teammates in order to win a Super Bowl.
Just a new installment in the drama of the Jets.
