Gronk is not able to aid QB Tom Brady in throwing more accurately; also, is there really anything he can do to to help the receivers actually catch the ball?
One thing Gronk will be able to do is help prevent some of the embarrassment in the red zone this season, as well as help increase New England's third down stats.
Sunday's game provided 'Old Testament-like' rain during a possible game-winning drive late in the 4th quarter, which ultimately led to an Adam Jones interception against Brady, ending a streak of 52 consecutive games with a touchdown pass.
Quick Stats:
- According to Pro Football Focus, Brady is rated 22nd in quarterback accuracy
- According to Pro Football Focus, the Patriots have 17 dropped passes through five games
- Only the Rams have more dropped passes with 18
- Denver has 16 passes dropped in five games - with 13 more touchdown passes
- WR Danny Amendola dropped three balls against the Bengals
Brady has not been as accurate as he has been in the past.
Whether it’s a lack of trust in his receivers or poor route-running by his receivers, the Patriots' receivers don't help the cause much - rookies Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins have each botched four passes, only slightly nudging out Amendola and Julian Edelman with three apiece.
Last season stats:
- NFL’s top-ranked offense
- 18 drops in seven games
- Brandon Lloyd after seven games dropped five
- Wes Welker, after seven games, dropped four, as did Gronkowski
The huge difference between this year and last is that the patriots averaged 31 points a game, which, if the patriots start scoring more, will outshine these dropped passes on offense.
